The HiFiBerry DAC+ Light is the little brother of the HiFiBerry DAC+. It is the more cost-efficient entry-level model, not offering all the same features of the normal HiFiBerry DAC+. The chipset of the DAC+ light differs from the DAC+ (ESS instead of Burr-Brown Model). This makes the DAC+ light lower priced than the DAC+. It also does not include hardware volume control (the volume has to be adjusted either directly on the connected amplifier or with a software volume controller). The HiFiBerry DAC+ light is simply stacked on top of the Raspberry Pi using the GPIO pins (no soldering necessary). There is also no additional power supply necessary. The DAC+ light is powered by the Raspberry Pi's supply.
The Max2Play image has been optimized for HifiBerry sound cards and can be set up easily. It ensures the best support of the HiFiBerry DAC+ light and Raspberry Pi combination.The HiFiBerry DAC+ light can easily be installed with the help of a Max2Play extension. The extension installs all necessary kernel drivers. After activating the sound card, it can be used by the audio players (e.g. Squeezelite) for sound output.
